Insulin Resistance Syndrome

Insulin Resistance Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance syndrome – is a group of health conditions that, when combined, put you at higher risk of developing heart disease and diabetes. These risk factors are closely related to overweight and obesity. The more risk factors you have, the more likely you are to develop heart disease and diabetes. It also makes you more likely to suffer strokes. The two most important risk factors for metabolic syndrome are having a large waist and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance occurs when the body cannot use it well. Insulin resistance is found in people who have type 2 diabetes. Eighty-five percent of the people who have type 2 diabetes also have metabolic syndrome.
